NSW: Upper house to give Jones chance to speak next week
Disgraced New South Wales upper house MP MALCOLM JONES will get the chance next weekto tell parliament why he should remain an MP despite misusing his parliamentary entitlements.
In July, the Independent Commission Against Corruption found Mr JONES had acted corruptlyby wrongly claiming more than $18,000 of an allowance for country MPs while living inSydney.
It said he'd also misused parliamentary staff and a $15,000 postage and stationeryallocation in a recruitment drive for 11 front political parties unconnected to his OutdoorRecreation Party before the March the 22nd state election.
A parliamentary source says a Labor MP, most likely Treasurer MICHAEL EGAN, will movea motion on Tuesday giving Mr JONES until the following day to respond to the ICAC report.
Other upper house MPs would then have the chance to respond to Mr JONES' defence.
It's understood the government won't move a motion to expel Mr JONES.
