QLD: NT police seek elderly couple

Darwin detectives are trying to contact an elderly Queensland couple who gave a woman a
lift from Chinchilla in south-west Queensland to Toowoomba last Thursday or Friday.

The woman was CHERIE HEWSON, the partner of a man who shot dead a policeman in the Northern
Territory.

Forty-four-year-old ROD ANSELL, the original Crocodile Dundee, was killed in a shootout
with police after fatally wounding Sergeant GLEN HUITSON 50km south of Darwin last Tuesday.

HEWSON later surrendered to Queensland police and appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on
Saturday charged with a weapons offence.

She's pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a weapon and has been released, with no
fine or conviction recorded.

Police say the charge is unrelated to the Darwin shootings.

Darwin detectives say HEWSON was dropped at the Toowoomba Transit Centre.

They would like the elderly couple or anyone knowing them to contact Darwin police with
any information that can help the ANSELL investigation.
