NSW:Dragon boat squad vows to get to world champs despite loss
The New South Wales dragon boat squad has vowed to press on to the world championships,
despite losing all 12 of its boats in an arson attack in inner Sydney.
A blaze at the Sydney Secondary College in Glebe destroyed the boats yesterday afternoon.
Dragon Boats New South Wales president MELANIE CANTWELL says the team still hopes to
compete at the Dragon Boat World Championships in Shanghai in October.
Australia plans to send a 200-strong team to the competition, including 100 from New South Wales.
Ms CANTWELL says the state's contingent will continue training with borrowed boats
until new one can be built.
She says she hopes they'll be fully equipped by the time the dragon boat season begins
next month.
